At the Georgia Aquarium, every single one of the regulators used not only undergoes a monthly inspection, but is also rebuilt once a year. Selected individuals (staff and highly qualified volunteers) participated in the two full days of the ScubaPro training clinic to teach them to work on and rebuild regulators.
As a regulator allows one to breathe underwater, having it function properly is critically important. Rebuilding a regulator, therefore, is not to be taken lightly. In order to work on and rebuild regulators, one must be trained by a certified instructor and needs to renew the certification once every two years (depending on how often one works on regulators). The clinic was taught by a ScubaPro certified instructor as the Aquarium uses ScubaPro brand regulators. The class size was kept small to allow for more personalized instruction.
Here, staff members of the Dive Immersion Program and a couple of volunteers are listening intently to the instructor.
At the end of the day, practice always makes perfect. Thus those who participated in this clinic will put their skills to good use in furthering the dive program here at the Georgia Aquarium.
