On October 13, 2011 in celebration of the US
Navy’s 236th anniversary, The Georgia Aquarium’s Dive Immersion
Program had the immense honor of hosting a re-enlistment ceremony for the Navy
2nd Special Operations Unit from Camp Lejeune, North
Carolina .The Ocean Voyager Gallery was packed with proud and excited families
and friends of the military personnel plus Georgia
Aquarium guests.
Via wireless underwater communications the audience was privileged to listen to the ceremony being conducted entirely underwater! Each soldier, using full face masks, repeated the solemn oath of reenlistment and rededicated themselves to service of our great nation.
The Master of Ceremonies was Major John Lynch; the oath of
reenlistment was taken by Senior Chief Navy Master Diver Michael Woods, Navy
Diver 1st Class Daniel Smith, and Navy Diver 1st Class William Stetson. Before,
during and after the dive, Dive Immersion & Dive Operations worked
seamlessly together providing safety divers as well as surface support and
logistics to ensure this honorary occasion went off without a hitch.
Congratulations & thank you to the military
personnel of the 2nd Special Operations Unit for your service and thank you to the
Georgia Aquarium Dive Immersion & Dive Operations Team for their support
and efforts on this honored occasion.
